Slow Boat to Serenity

Story By Dale Irvin
Fourteen days of serenity await you aboard the Vogager of the Seas, which has on-board a rock
wall, ice skating rink and mini golf courses.
My last vacation was lots of fun but ended up being a sort of “If this is Tuesday it must be Belgium” trek as I attempted to squeeze in visits to lots of friends and several historic sites.

Here’s something for those of you who would find that kind of trip appalling.

On April 19, Royal Caribbean will be repositioning its ship Voyager of the Seas from Galveston back to Europe for the summer season. The ship will stop at just a handful of ports along the way during a leisurely fourteen day voyage, but they’re interesting ones: Kings Wharf, Bermuda; Ponta Delgada, Azores; Cork, Ireland; Cherbourg, France; finally arriving at Southampton, England. But a full nine days of the trip are at sea. Perfect for sitting in a deck chair doing absolutely nothing. Or you could go ice-skating, play miniature golf, climb a rock wall, or get to know some of your 3,000 fellow passengers while playing bingo. These big ships truly are cities unto themselves.

A company called CruCon has packaged the cruise along with airfare back to Houston starting at $1498, but there are just a few cabins left in the deal, so think fast.
