Northwest has the latest edition of it’s “Cash + Miles” promotion that let’s you apply as few as 10,000 frequent flyer miles toward a trip and get a reduced airfare. The best deal for us is the $169 plus 10,000 miles combo for roundtrip travel within “Zone A,” which covers most of the country to the east and north, all the way to Maine. This fare applies to Baton Rouge, as well as New Orleans, and seats are far less restricted than they are for normal frequent flyer seats. The promotion is good for travel through the end of May, so you might even score a seat over the Memorial Day weekend. Get details here. Folks have reluctantly become accustomed to driving to New Orleans for a good deal much of the time. But if you’re willing to drive even a bit further you can score an astounding $78 roundtrip fare (plus taxes) to Orlando from the Gulfport airport. Allegiant spurned Baton Rouge, but found Gulfport somehow more to its liking. While the airline’s somewhat annoying website aggressively tries to sell you other stuff along the way, this fare that is available on select dates into the summer is worth it. And I should give the site, www.allegiantair.com, credit for having a calendar that shows you the cheapest days to fly.
