When Kathy Stone exhibited works at Backwoods Gallery in St. Francisville August 2003, we were captivated by a painting depicting a stately oak spreading its limbs above a winding country road, and contacted the artist to inquire about featuring the piece on the cover of this issue. Alas, others liked it too, and the painting had been sold to a visitor from Montana. Undetered, Stone leaped to the easel and painted another version especially for this twentieth anniversary edition.
