Libro Fantastico
Montage, collage, acrylic
by Anna Macedo

June 2007

Anna Macedo’s website reads like a patchwork quilt of creativity -- collage, abstract painting, drawing, graphic design; jewelry constructed of intricately woven beadwork, antique buttons, flotsam and jetsam. What’s missing is a hint of her fiction writing, which is a pursuit-come-lately. That, and the crocheting of whimsical hats and scarves. “The statute of limitations surely has run out on the question of where I received my art education,” she jokes. But we happen to know she studied painting, printmaking, and English literature in Lafayette, San Francisco and Denver. The piece on display, this construction, as she calls it -- part photomontage, part collage, and part acrylic -- is a retro visit to an era when a teenaged artist covered any and every available surface with wry, surrealistic worlds; images painstakingly clipped from news magazines and glued seamlessly into a burgeoning alternative universe of her own making. Apparently, still at it. For more visit www.annamacedo.com.
