Baton Rouge native, North Carolina resident artist Arless Day’s new paintings are collages of places real and imagined. In this series, Day has left his signature Euro-pean imagery behind for awhile, explored new forms and colors, and altered the way he collages and paints his pieces. The artist layers his intricate works, interspersing abstract and architectural elements culled from decades of clipping images from books and magazines, then reaching for his brushes to complete the picture. Says Day, “During this time my work started to be more influenced by Henri Matisse, Richard Diebenkorn and Paul Gauguin. The impact of these artists has helped define growth in my own work.
