"I like something fantastical, whimsical, comical," says Baton Rouge artist Marsha Barkemeyer of the subject matter that crowds her canvases with cats playing fiddles and cows jumping over the moon. For this Country Roads holiday issue, Barkemeyer concentrated on what was magical about the holidays when we were kids–the enchantment, the mystery–to capture the hope and goodwill that always accompanied the season, regardless of our beliefs.
