Hooded Warblers
Acrylic on paper
by Murrell Butler

April 2002

The hooded warbler is a summer resident of the Eastern United States; it spends the winter in Central America and passes through South Louisiana and southeastern Mississippi during April.
In this depiction by St. Francisville, Louisiana, naturalist and artist Murrell Butler, the hooded warbler sits perched on a coral bean plant, which produces spikes and red flowers in May. It is a wild plant, native to Louisiana.
